Coordinated through the Friends of the Spoil Islands, this trip requires a 4-part sign-up process.

Event Time: 8:30 am. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early. Event will end at approximately 1:00 pm.
Matthew Anderson, FL Department of Environmental Protection will be our guide for the day. Matthew is a shoreline bird expert, familiar with the waters and has a wealth of information about birds in this area. April is the best time that coincides with the nesting season for many water birds. There is a conservation island near IR-43 which is an important wading bird rookery and also acts as a nest site for colonial seabirds.

Fill out TWO required liability forms: FOSI Release of Liability Form and Photo Consent Form & Indian River Aquatic Preserve Volunteer Event Form. Sign and bring to the next SLAS General Meeting on March 7 or April 4. If unable to attend, please contact me as I will need to make arrangements to access both forms before the outing. This form must be in a paper form and not submitted electronically.
Fill out a required St Lucie Audubon Society Liability Form. You have the option to submit an electronic liability form or you may bring a signed form to the outing or bring to one of the meetings. SLAS LIABILITY FORM
Meet At: Round Island Park Boat Launch - 7:45 am - GPS: N 27.56148, W 80.32475 2200 South A1A, Vero Beach, FL 32963
Directions: Cross over North Hutchinson Island Causeway to Hwy A1A North. Pass Navy Seal Museum. Pass Avalon State Park. Go 1.5 miles. Entrance to Round Island Park on left.
There are bathroom facilities at the park but not on the islands. Participants will not be confined to the boats the entire day. We will have lunch on Island IR-43 and do some walking around the island. Bring lunch, water and wear shoes that might get wet as we step off the boats. There are no docks on these islands. Bring bins, cameras, sunscreen, hat, dry bag and water. Dress for seasonal temperatures, light rain or direct sun. The islands have uneven ground in places, and participants should be able to walk on uneven surfaces. A walking stick is recommended.
